In order to support the development of a research proposal, we offer a postdoctoral researcher position beginning as soon as possible. The duration of the position is only for 3 to 4 months, but may be continued on a longer term basis if the proposal receives funding. Activities: •Contribute to the development of the research proposal with own ideas and perspectives (see short research description below) •Develop a sound literature review on the topic and develop initial hypotheses •Write the research design •Fulfill documentation for funding request Academic qualifications: •In possession of a PhD in marketing or consumer psychology •The position is also suitable for PhD students close to completion. Competencies: •Demonstrated independence and initiative •Excellent level of written English

Description

Short research description: In several markets such as food, there is a consumer demand for proximity (at least psychological). Consumers desire greater connectivity with products and producers. Several initiatives illustrate this type of demand (e.g. Fair Trade, contractual models of proximity agriculture). Building on these summarised considerations, the proposed research project has three objectives: 1.To analyse whether consumers have a real need for “psychological proximity” with producers and if so to understand the nature of the need and in which circumstances it manifests itself. 2.To analyse whether this need is fulfilled by certain suppliers and to understand how. 3.To draw the lessons that can be learnt for the different players in the marketing channels. The Fair Trade consumer and the Fair Trade markets will be the unit of analysis throughout the project.

Benefits

We offer: •75% position for 3 months or ~60% during 4 months; if the candidate does not hold a PhD yet, then the duration could be longer •Salary : CHF 88'776 (~74’000 EUR) per year for a full-time position; if the candidate does not hold a PhD, then the salary varies between CHF 70’000 to CHF 82’000 •Excellent working environment (university, infrastructure, city) •Flexible arrangements are possible
