Description of Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary research environment, interacting with chemists, biochemists and microbiologists to evaluate and translate screening “hits” into lead compounds for TB drug optimization and development. The major research project will involve the design, synthesis and characterization of small molecules for TB drug discovery. To conduct research into the design, synthesis, purification and characterization of small molecules as candidate anti-tubercular agents.
• Conducting experiments and collection of data for the research project.
• To develop, or maintain, a good knowledge of current research in the field.
• To plan, design and implement experimental plans
• To conduct experiments and collect data for the research project
• To maintain a laboratory book reporting all research conducted as part of project
• To prepare and present papers, reports, and presentations of current research work.
• Contributing freely to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole.
• Maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice in line with IDRI policy.

Skills Needed (Education, Areas of Expertise, # of years experience, etc.):
• Graduate in relevant science
• PhD in organic and/or medicinal chemistry
• Research experience in laboratory with organic and/or medicinal chemistry
• Laboratory bench skills
• Ability to work with hazardous chemicals
• Ability to organize and prioritize own work
• Ability to write papers
• Ability to maintain good laboratory records
• Evidence of good team working
• Good communication skills
• Willingness to learn new skills
• Flexible and co-operative
