| A Postdoctoral Position is available at The Jackson Laboratory Bar Harbor Maine to study brain development using mouse models. We are interested in functional development of neuronal circuits in the brain. There are two major areas of research focus: 1) mechanisms underlying synapse elimination and consolidation, and 2) neuronal mechanisms underlying autism spectrum disorders. We have developed a quantitative model system to analyze pruning and strengthening of synapses in the brain of normal and genetically modified mice (J. Neurosci. 2008, 2011; J. Physiol. 2006, 2011). We use patch-clamp recording and optogenetics to study the development and function of excitatory and inhibitory circuits in the thalamus and neocortex. This functional approach is complemented by molecular, anatomical, and behavioral analyses. The Jackson Laboratory is an independent research institute located in Bar Harbor, Maine, adjacent to Acadia National Park. A recent survey in The Scientist magazine ranked The Jackson Laboratory among top 10 “Best Places to Work” among U.S. research institutions.
