Postdoctoral position available for highly motivated candidates with a background of leukemia and hematopoiesis to join UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and Dept of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) School of Medicine. With an emphasis on how histone/chromatin modification affects normal and malignant development, our group are utilizing knockout/transgenic mouse models to dissect how histone modification factors define mammalian ‘epi’-genomes, control gene expression, and regulate cell proliferation versus differentiation of tissue-specific stem cells during development, and how their deregulations lead to oncogenesis (Trends Mol. Med. 2007 Sep;13(9):373-80. Nat. Rev. Cancer. 2010 Jul;10(7):457-69.). Our recent research has contributed to a better understanding for various histone methylations and epigenetic factors, either chromatin-modifying enzymes or chromatin-associated factors, during the pathogenesis of human diseases, notably leukemia (Nature. 2009 June 11; 459(7248): 847–851. Mutat. Res. 2008 Dec 1; 647(1-2): 3-12. Nature Cell Biology 2007: 9(7): 804-812). We’re also using shRNA library-based screening to search novel oncogenes or tumor suppressors, and are in collaboration with UNC Center of Drug Discovery to develop small molecular inhibitors of epigenetic factors as novel targeted therapies.
