An NIH funded postdoctoral position is available in the Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study and develop novel proteomic-based methods to determine the quantity and quality of mucins and their interacting proteins in chronic airway diseases such as cystic fibrosis and COPD using proteomics methods, cell cultures, mouse models, and patient samples.

This study will employ a broad range of biochemical and biophysical methods including, mass spectrometry (Waters Q-Tof, Thermo Q-Exactive). Our laboratory in the Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center is one of the best equipped and most focused mucin/mucus biochemistry/biophysics and proteomic laboratories in the United States. As such, it will provide the selected candidate with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense. The research environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers an excellent opportunity for career development.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in biochemistry and related areas. Prior experience with subsets of proteomic techniques, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, and bioinformatic data analysis is essential. Prior experience with an Orbitrap mass spectrometer is preferred. Applicants with a background in labeled and label free quantitative proteomic and targeted proteomics are especially encouraged to apply.
