Salary Range: £32,100 – £40,720 per annum

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to co-ordinate and lead on the phenotypic characterisation of new transgenic and knockout models, leading to a new understanding of disease mechanisms. This post is funded by the European Research Council for the creation of gene-targeted models of complex human disease including hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, insulin resistance and immunologically-mediated kidney disease.

The post will be held within the Physiological Genomics and Medicine (PGM) Group, led by Professor Tim Aitman at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre (CSC) at Imperial College London.

The PGM Group has achieved international recognition in the genetic analysis of complex disease phenotypes. More recently gene expression profiling, informatics and linkage analysis have been used to map control points for gene expression as expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) and to show the importance of gene copy number in autoimmune disease. By identifying the genetic basis of these disease phenotypes in experimental models, the PGM Group aims to gain new insights into the development of common human diseases and ultimately to use this new knowledge for improved strategies for their prevention and treatment.

The post will require co-ordinating and leading a project for the detailed phenotypic characterisation of newly generated transgenic and knockout models of hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, insulin resistance and immunologically-mediated kidney disease.

You must have a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, physiology, or a closely related field, or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience in laboratory work with a significant publication track record in a relevant field.

You must also have expertise in phenotypic characterisation using physiological assays; proven experience in creation of transgenic or knockout models is desirable.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 3 years based at the Hammersmith Campus.
