The aim of the project is to explore the possibilities to use proteomics as a breeding tool within a collaborative program for a sustainable agriculture. The intention is to use targeted mass spectrometry to measure levels of proteins associated with disease resistance and other desirable traits when developing new crops. Even if the main project area is within plant science, the targeted proteomics platform that will be developed as part of the project will also be applicable to other areas of life sciences.
The successful applicant should take part in setting up a pipeline for targeted proteomics, based on NGS data, where measurement of specific protein variants is one of the key features. Design of experiments and evaluation of results are also important tasks. The applicant should master programming in at least one programming language, and preferably have experience from analysis of expression datasets, as well as from sequence analysis. Experience from proteomics experimental work is also welcome, but not a requirement. The project will involve interaction with research groups in different areas, and is conducted within the computational proteomics group which is integrated with the experimental work at the department.
