Grade 7: £29,099 - £35,788 p.a.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic membrane protein scientist with a strong interest in ion channel structural biology. This role will involve purification, crystallisation, structure characterisation and functional studies of human ion channels and other membrane proteins.

You will be working in close collaboration with a team of 6 membrane protein scientists in the Integral Membrane Protein group at the SGC, lead by Dr Liz Carpenter. Your aim will be to obtain structural and functional data on some of the most biologically and pharmacologically important and challenging proteins in the human proteome.

You will have proven experience in at least 3 of the following areas: integral membrane protein purification, functional characterisation, crystallization, crystal optimization and crystallography. You will have research experience relating to integral membrane protein structural and/or functional studies and be keen to work as part of a highly collaborative team.

Experience in working with ion channels, eukaryotic membrane proteins and/or the baculovirus/insect cell expression system would be an advantage.
