Your profile
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the coordination and execution of the program. Further responsibilities include the supervision of residents and students involved in the program, the publication of results and the possible acquisition of funds to continue the program.

Your position
The research lab of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery of the University Medical Center Utrecht, active in research on protection and repair in damaged inner ears, is hiring a motivated postdoctoral fellow to study the behavior of Lgr5 positive cells in the mammalian cochlea, with a particular emphasis on their role in damage and repair. Lgr5 is a Wnt target gene and cells positive for Lgr5 have recently been identified in the developing and mature mouse cochlea. Lgr5 expression in multiple organ systems, e.g., the small intestine and the hair follicle, indicates that it may represent a global marker for adult stemness. This stem cell related research is potentially valuable for patients with sensorineural hearing loss. The University Medical Center Utrecht is one of the largest academic centers in the Netherlands. Patient care and biomedical research are closely linked, which creates an environment where scientific advancements quickly move from bench to bedside.

A recent Ph.D. (or a Ph.D. expected shortly) in life sciences is required along with a publication record relevant to stem cell research. We request a desire to conduct and publish world-class research at the cutting edge of the field. Prior experience with in vivo mouse models is a plus.

The maximum monthly salary for this 100% position is €3899.00 gross on the basis of full-time employment (working week of 36 hours). This is a temporary appointment for 2 jaar.
