The postdoctoral position is within the Department of Bioengineering and the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. Qualified individuals should have a PhD and research experience in stem cell bioengineering, cardiac tissue engineering, and developmental biology.
The ideal candidate should have experience with cultivation of cardiomyocytes, embryonic stem cell (and/or induced pluripotent stem cell) culture, and stem cell-based cardiac tissue engineering. Strong experience in flow cytometry, expression analysis of RNA and protein (e.g. real time quantitative RT-PCR, western blotting), and fluorescence microscopy (immunostaining) is required.
Our research focuses on investigating how the engineered microenvironments direct cell function and tissue regeneration (PNAS, 107:565-570). Several specific thrusts of the current research program include: microscale stem/progenitor cell niche engineering, cardiovascular tissue engineering, stem cell mechanobiology and mechanotransduction. The ideal candidate is expected to investigate the use of stem cell derived cardiomyocytes and cardiovascular progenitors in tissue engineering to achieve a functional and mature myocardium. The candidate should function independently in the design and development of their research, interact with the collaborators from the Center for Cardiovascular Biology and the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, and participate in the preparation of manuscripts, grants, and presentations.
