ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, a centre based in Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain), devoted to research and education of the optical and photonic sciences at the highest international level, is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate(s) will be part of a European Research Council-funded project, “Atomic Quantum Metrology,” in the group of Prof. Morgan Mitchell.
Description

The successful candidate(s) will be part of a European Research Council-funded project, “Atomic Quantum Metrology,” in the group of Prof. Morgan Mitchell. The group is very active in quantum metrology, with recent results including the first optical magnetometry beyond the shot-noise limit, the first spin squeezing in a magnetically-sensitive cold-atom system, the first measurements beyond the Heisenberg limit, and the first use of quantum optics to improve non-destructive measurement. The project aims to apply these and other advances to build a cold-atom optical magnetometer at the quantum limits of sensitivity, in order to test and develop potentially revolutionary new proposals in quantum metrology and quantum optics. Eligibility and Conditions Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in experimental cold atom physics, quantum optics or neighbouring fields. No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO post-doctoral contracts. The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to three years. Competitive salary depending on experience.
