Postdoctoral Researcher – Environmental Technology University Designated Research Initiative - Environmental Technologies Group (12 month Contract)
Description

The Environmental Technologies (EnvironTech) University Designated Research Initiative was founded in February 2011. The UDRI programme incorporates physical (adsorption and filtration) and chemical (photocatalytic) approaches as well as biotechnological (metal-reducing biofilms), and draws on the multidisciplinary expertise of chemical and environmental engineers and biotechnologists from the Schools of Biotechnology and Oscail and chemists from the School of Chemical Sciences. The UDRI aims to be the Irish leader in the detection and removal of persistent organic and metal pollutants from drinking water and wastewater using these novel approaches. Principle duties and responsibilities We are seeking to appoint an environmental scientist or engineer with experience in water and wastewater treatment and/or the development of novel catalytic materials. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary institute to work in liaison with current researchers on: • Undertaking research in the domains of water and wastewater treatment technologies, including the development of composites. • Bringing lab based technologies to pilot scale. • Identifying and developing future research and funding initiatives • Working alongside and supervising PhD students working in this area • Writing research papers for submission to journals for publication In addition, it is desirable that the candidate has experience in one or more of the following analytical techniques: HPLC, LCMS, SEM, XRD, FESEM, FTIR Minimum criteria The successful applicant should have a PhD in Environmental Technology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Materials/Mechanical Engineering. Applications from candidates with more than 2 years post-doctoral experience and a record of high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals would be particularly welcome. Prior experience in supervising postgraduate students and of writing successful applications for research funding would be a considerable advantage. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a group involving different specialisms will also be essential attributes of the successful candidate.
