The Center for Human Genetics at the VIB research institute and the University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven, Belgium) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to study the molecular genetics and biology of leukemia.
Description
The laboratory of Prof. Jan Cools has a major interest in the molecular genetics of hematological malignancies. Past projects have identified and characterized novel oncogenes that contribute to the development of leukemia. We use various genetic tools to study cancer genomes, and use cell-based as well as mouse models for the functional characterization of identified oncogenes and as pre-clinical models. We are currently using next-generation sequencing (exome sequencing, full genome sequencing, RNA-seq) to study leukemia genomes, and have identified a large number of novel aberrations. In the next years, we want to expand our genetic analysis and start in-depth functional analyses on several of these new oncogenes to determine their exact role in leukemogenesis. To strengthen our research team, we are looking for a motivated postdoctoral fellow with experience in genetics and cell biology. References to previous work: Lahortiga I, et al. (2007).
