The Center for Human Genetics at the VIB research institute and the University of Leuven (Belgium) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to study the molecular genetics and biology of leukemia.
The laboratory of Prof.Jan Cools has a major interest in the molecular genetics of hematological malignancies. We use various genetic tools to study cancer genomes, and use cell-based as well as mouse models for the functional characterization of identified oncogenes and as pre-clinical models. We are currently using next-generation sequencing (exome seq, full genome seq, RNA-seq) to study leukemia genomes. In the next years, we want to expand our genetic analyses and start in-depth functional analyses on several of the new oncogenes.
Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD degree (in biology, medicine, bio-informatics, or related) and should have a strong publication record. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in human genetics and cancer research, and would have experience with cell culture and mouse experiments. Candidates must be willing to apply for a fellowship at the FWO.
What we offer: We offer a postdoctoral position for three years in an international research institute in the center of Europe (close to Brussels), with access to the latest technology in sequencing and imaging, core facilities, and technical support. The starting date is between April and October 2012.
