Induced Pluripotent versus Adult Stem Cells Postdoctoral Fellowship Description:
Recent findings on heterogeneity, flexibility and plasticity of stem cells are challenging the traditional concept of stem cells as preprogrammed entities. The concept of self-organizing systems offers an alternative, more elegant and comprehensive explanation for the experimental data. In recent decades, biological studies of stem cells have evolved a broad spectrum of phenomena, ranging from cellular level to tissue level, suggesting we need to abandon the classical concept of a rigid hierarchy of stem cells development and organization, in order to better understand the dynamic and functional issues involving these cells. This perspective has implications for the characterization of stem cells from specific tissues (for example, on gene expression profiles and patterns of gene regulation and epigenetic changes). The proposed project is composed of seven different sub-projects that aim to deeply investigate the current concept of adult stem cells niche using as a model: human immature dental pulp stem cells, described by our group.
Posts include full salary, benefits, ample office and laboratory space, administrative support, and research fund support. Appointment is for two years, with possible extension for a further two years contingent on a successful scientific review. The Laboratory provides an outstanding research environment. There are resources and core facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation. It provides a collaborative atmosphere where scientists can take risks in a supportive environment.
Eligibility:
Experience in developing research in mesenchymal, fetal and pluripotent stem cells, and proven ability to publish articles in scientific journals with selective editorial board.
The candidate must submit:
a) Justification for the grant application;
b) Scholar historic of the Masters and PhD;
c) Candidate’s Curriculum;
d) Three recommendations from professors or researchers, highlighting the qualities and potential of the candidate.
