Responsibilities: The nuclear physics group at Louisiana State University has a position available in the area of experimental nuclear astrophysics. Our group is currently involved in projects to experimentally determine cross sections and reaction rates important in a variety of stellar processes, such as those that occur in classical novae and X-ray bursts. This includes detector development and performing reaction studies using stable as well as radioactive ion beams. The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in all aspects of these studies from building equipment to the planning, execution and analysis of specific experiments. Detector development will take place at LSU, while experimental work will be completed at outside facilities such as Argonne National Laboratory, TRIUMF laboratory and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, among others. This position is for two years with the possible addition of a third year. Required Qualifications: (Postdoc and Senior Postdoc) – Ph.D. or equivalent degree in nuclear physics or related discipline; (Senior Postdoc) – three years postgraduate experience; (Research Associate 5) – Masters or equivalent degree in nuclear physics or a related discipline and two years related experience OR a terminal degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent degree in nuclear physics or a related discipline. (Ph.D. preferred.) Special Requirement: Some national and international travel required. Additional Qualifications Desired: Familiarity with ROOT and C++; demonstrated practical knowledge in the development and construction of detectors and other equipment. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. An offer of employment is contingent on satisfactory pre-employment background check.
