A Postdoctoral Associate position, fully funded through a NIH R01 grant, is immediately available in the laboratory of Alfonso Bellacosa M.D., Ph.D. at the Fox Chase Cancer Center – Philadelphia, to study the role of base excision repair in mediating active DNA demethylation in mammals. Active DNA demethylation is emerging as an important mechanism of gene activation, as shown by recent studies conducted by our group (Cortellino et al. Cell 2011) and other laboratories. We are particularly interested in the role of DNA demethylation in development and cancer. The project will focus on the mechanisms and functional consequences of DNA demethylation, using biochemical, molecular and cellular biology techniques, as well as animal models. Previous experience with these techniques and mouse models is desirable.
