Job Description
A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel R. Kapusta, Department of Pharmacology at the LSUHSC. This position will involve conducting projects focused on the central neural and humoral control of cardiovascular and kidney function, which offer exciting possibilities to integrate cellular and molecular approaches with whole animal physiology and pharmacology. Our laboratory uses an integrated approach involving rodent animal models, gene knockout mice, sympathetic nerve recording, radio telemetry, and CNS microinjection methods to understand the cellular signaling pathways (e.g., G-alpha subunit proteins) by which brain G-protein coupled receptor ligands affect neural and humoral pathways that control cardiovascular and renal function in vivo. We are currently seeking a candidate with a solid background in molecular/cellular biology who will integrate with our research team to investigate the cellular and signaling mechanisms mediating the cardiorenal responses to central opioids, angiotensin II and other GPCR ligands. Our multifaceted approach is aimed toward development of novel therapeutic ligands used to target pathological states involving elevated sympathoexcitation and vasopressin release. In addition to those with a background in molecular/cellular biology, candidates that are established in whole animal approaches but want to expand their knowledge of the cardiovascular, kidney and autonomic nervous system are encouraged to apply.
