The DZNE is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association, which focuses on neurodegenerative diseases.

Description: The Neurovascular Diseases Research Group (PI: Gabor Petzold) investigates how alterations in cerebral blood flow and glial/neuronal activity contribute to disease initiation and progression in mouse models of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, stroke, and CADASIL (Neuron 2008; Stroke 2008; Nature Neurosci 2009). We use techniques such as in vivo two-photon microscopy of intracellular calcium and blood flow, small-animal MRI, middle cerebral artery occlusion model, telemetric recordings, laser speckle and doppler imaging, electrophysiology, constitutional and conditional mouse transgenics, and comprehensive behavioral assessment. We are currently expanding our experimental repertoire to optogenetics, viral vector-mediated genetic modification, and chronic in vivo imaging. We possess, or have unlimited access to, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

Qualification: We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree to join our group as a postdoctoral researcher. A background in (in vivo) imaging, blood flow/stroke research, or any of the other techniques mentioned above would be preferable, but is not absolutely necessary. Fluency in English, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a multicultural international environment are required.
