Jobs by tag(s): electrophysiology addiction dopamine postdoc
job description
A post-doctoral fellowship is available to study synaptic transmission in dopamine cells of the VTA with Dr. Chris Ford in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University. This NIH-funded position is available beginning August 2011.
Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related field and have a background in cellular neuroscience. Experience with electrophysiology is desirable but not necessarily a requirement.
The goal of the lab is to understand the neural circuitry that controls the mesolimbic dopamine system. Projects will examine the synaptic mechanisms that control dopamine transmission to determine how dopamine and other inputs regulate the excitability of post-synaptic cells in the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system. The position will involve in vitro brain-slice electrophysiology in combination with a variety of different techniques such as electrochemistry (fast-scanning cyclic voltammetry), uncaging, and viral-mediated optogenetics (channelrhodopsin).
SALARY/BENEFITS: The position will be funded by a NIH grant from the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA). Salary will commensurate with experience and will adhere to current NIH guidelines. Benefits package will include health/dental insurance and travel support for meetings.
Cleveland has extremely affordable housing with several great neighborhoods that are only a short distance from campus and the cultural center of the city. The physiology department in the School of Medicine has a strong research group with wide ranging interests from molecular to whole animal physiology and has a strong interaction with the adjacent Department of Neurosciences.
Please send a CV, description of research experience and interests and names of three references to:
