Immediate Opening – Post-doctoral Fellowship in Molecular Genetics
The University of Massachusetts Medical School, one of the fastest growing academic health centers in the country, has built a reputation as a world-class research institution, consistently producing noteworthy advances in clinical and basic research. The Medical School attracts more than $174 million in research funding annually, 80 percent of which comes from federal funding sources. UMMS is the academic partner of UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care provider in Central Massachusetts.
A position is open for a post-doctoral fellow in molecular genetics in the Day Neuromuscular Research Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. This fellow will join a team engaged in defining genetic loci and novel genes which predispose to familial and sporadic motor neuron disease. Primary strategies entail linkage analysis, genome-wide SNP screens, transcript mapping and both exome and genome sequencing. A critical component of the project is the investigation of the biological significance of identified variants using cell- and mouse-based models. Applicants will ideally have some experience in the analysis of SNP array and genetic linkage data, sequencing methods and alignment applications, and methods of analyzing aspects of gene expression and protein biology in cell culture. The Day Laboratory investigates the genetic and molecular basis for selected neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases.
