A postdoctoral position in bioinformatics is available at the Center for Comparative Genomics and Bioinformatics at Penn State University. The current research projects include ancient DNA (e.g. museum specimens), vertebrate genomics (human and mammalian), invertebrate genomics, microbial genomics and metagenomics. Successful candidates must have a solid background in bioinformatics and computational genomics together with experience in Next-Generation Sequence data processing. Essential requirements include proficiency in computer-programming skills, such as C/C++/Java and scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Phyton), demonstrated expertise in performing quality and assembly analyses of sequence data generated by Next-Generation Sequencing platforms. Duties of the role will include curating and analyzing NGS data. The candidates will work in close collaboration with wet-lab biologists and other scientists to assist in interpretation and validation of analyzed data.
