A post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Pathology, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) to investigate the molecular mechanisms of epigenetic regulation of normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The laboratory focuses on studying the contribution of DNA methylation changes to the development of acute leukemias. We have recently demonstrated that leukemias have very specific DNA methylation patterns that correlate with molecular and clinical features (Cancer Cell, 2010 Jan 19;17(1):13-27). Furthermore, we have established a mechanistic link between known mutations in AML and the establishment of aberrant hypermethylation profiles (Cancer Cell. 2010 Dec 14;18(6):553-67).

 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with in-depth knowledge and extensive skills in cellular and molecular biology to join the lab. The candidates should demonstrate expertise in various lab techniques including cell culture and assays (cell proliferation assay, cell preparation for FACS, cell stable and transient transfection, use of siRNA), preparation and analysis of DNA and RNA (preparation of plasmids, regular PCR and RT-PCR), immunoblotting, biochemical assays (ELISA). Prior lab experience in the field of leukemia biology and leukemia mouse models is highly preferred. It is expected that the candidate has ability to work independently, collect and tabulate data, publish and present results, as well as to participate in the training of graduate students in a research laboratory setting.

 

Required Qualifications*

 

M.D. or Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology. Experience in a research laboratory setting. Evidence of scholarly ability (record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, etc.) Ability to communicate in written and spoken English is required.
