Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Protocols for Quantum Thermodynamics Measurements

Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a 2-year theory postdoc to work on the theoretical description of the interplay between quantum states and vibrations in carbon nanotube devices, and establish how to utilize this interplay to monitor quantum thermodynamic processes. The successful candidate will have a background in quantum thermodynamics/condensed matter theory with a PhD completed or near completion. They will be knowledgeable in their field, highly self-motivated and show evidence of having actively driven research forward and completed projects on time. They will have experience engaging with experiments, and be able to work independently as well as contributing actively to the project's multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to spend a significant amount of their time in the group of Professor Janet Anders at the University of Exeter. The project involves designing experimental protocols for a nanoelectromechanical platform, with the aim of measuring signatures of work extracted from quantum coherence. We are a team combining experimentalist and theorists, and the specific aim of this project is to model the experimental platform and lead the design of an experimental realisation of a work-from- coherence extraction protocol for the nanomechanical platform. All applications must be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and a Supporting Statement as part of your application. Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application. The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 25 June 2020. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 3 July 2020 and you must be available on this date.
