伦敦玛丽女王大学RNA生物学相关专业博士后招聘

2018-12-26 16:09 来源: 互联网收集 作者: liuxuehr

The newly established Haematopoietic Stem Cell and Leukaemia Laboratory welcomes applications for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with expertise in RNA biology or a related subject. This position is funded by a recently awarded 5-year CRUK Programme Grant. The project will focus on the impact of the epitranscriptome on stem cell biology and leukaemic transformation. Our central aim is to discover how RNA modifications control normal stem cell functions and leukaemic transformation and exploit these mechanisms to expand haematopoietic stem cells (HSC) and eradicate cancer stem cells in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

This programme will join a novel and emerging field of epitranscriptome and cancer biology thus offering opportunity for multidisciplinary training (in stem cell/cancer biology, molecular biology and bioinformatics), new discovery and excellent career development.

The research will be based in the world-renowned Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in a relevant biological subject related to RNA biology. Significant research laboratory experience in molecular biology, RNA biology/epitranscriptome, omics approaches (e.g. RNA-seq, CLIP-seq, ChIP-seq) and protein biochemistry are essential. A publication track record in the RNA field would be an advantage.

This project will be supervised by Prof. Kamil K Kranc (Barts Cancer Institute) and Prof. Donal O’Carroll (University of Edinburgh). Our research combines expertise in stem cell and leukaemia biology and RNA molecular biology. Selected publications from the Kranc and O’Carroll laboratories: Guitart et al., J. Exp. Med., 2017; Vukovic et al., J. Exp. Med., 2015; Ivanova et al., Mol Cell, 2017; Morgan et al., Nature, 2017

The post is a fixed term position for 36 months in the first instance (with a possibility of extension for extra 2 years). Starting salary will be in the range £33,615-£39,483 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

The Barts Cancer Institute requires applicants to provide all certificates at interview to confirm their qualifications (specified in the Job Description).

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries about this post are strongly encouraged. Arrangements to visit the Institute/Centre, can be arranged upon request. Please contact Professor Kamil Kranc (kamil.kranc@qmul.ac.uk) for further information.

Details about Barts Cancer Institute can be found at www.bci.qmul.ac.uk

Job Context

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training. It is one of six institutes within The School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD).

Job Purpose

To undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI; Prof. Kamil R Kranc) in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme.

To contribute to the overall scientific endeavour of the Centre, and possibly to take responsibility for areas of other projects, as demand requires.

To work as part of the Institute’s research team, being mutually supportive and covering duties as necessary during colleagues’ absences and at times of additional pressure, as directed.

This multidisciplinary team funded by the recently awarded CRUK Programme Grant, will focus on the impact of the epitranscriptome on stem cell biology and cancer formation. The group will investigate how RNA modifications control normal stem cell functions and leukaemic transformation, and exploit these mechanisms to expand haematopoietic stem cells (HSC) and identify therapeutic targets to eradicate cancer stem cells in acute myeloid leukaemia

This programme will join the emerging field of the epitranscriptome, and its role in cancer biology, thus offering significant opportunity for multidisciplinary training, new discovery and excellent career development

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Specific Duties:

The principal duty of the post will be to undertake laboratory research, developing the assigned project (see above), in a timely and resource efficient manner, as appropriate for the research area.

To work towards a publication record of the kind that will enhance the Centre’s research reputation at national and international level and that will clearly demonstrate originality and scholarship.

To attend and participate in Centre’s academic activities, e.g. Laboratory and journal club meetings, research group meetings and weekly seminars.

To make research initiatives an original contributions to the research programme wherever possible and to contribute freely to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole.

To assist with experimental procedures in animals, where necessary.

General Duties:

To execute experiments.

To collect and analyse data.

To maintain appropriate databases, keeping accurate written and computerised records, to ensure that these records are stored in a secure place, and to maintain confidentiality of all electronically stored personal data in line with the provisions of the Data Protection Act.

To prepare reports and scientific publications to disseminate results from the programme of research.

To keep up to date with specific, clinical and professional issues, in particular developments in the specific subject area.

To undertake literature searches to explore potential research projects and to be able to interpret and present the findings of the literature searches and advise the research teams appropriately regarding potential projects.

To supervise and train where necessary new members of the research team.

To assist in drafting budgets and applications for potential research projects and grants.

Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected by the line manager or Head of Department.

The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the jobholder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the role, as reasonable requested by their line manager.

This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time it was drawn up. Such duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of the responsibility entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot in themselves justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.

This table lists the essential and desirable requirements needed in order to perform the job effectively. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the extent to which they meet these requirements.
